Description:

The Challenger Sidewinder is an innovative tool that oscillates the drill string, reducing drill string friction, this in turn reduces stick slip when drilling with an oriented steerable motor as well as other applications.

The Sidewinder runs in conjunction with a shock enhancer to create and enhance the tool for optimum results.

The magnitude of the pressure pulses created by the Sidewinder is a function of the mud density and the flow rate through the tool.

The Sidewinder has a flow passage bypassing the rotary valve where carbide nozzles can be installed to fine tune the Sidewinder to specific mud weight, flow rates and rig pump capacity.

The Challenger Sidewinder utilizes a balanced tungsten carbide rotary valve. The design virtually eliminates any axial or radial loads, prolonging valve, radial and axial bearing life.

Challenger Shock Tool Enhancer

The Challenger Shock Tool Enhancer utilizes a telescoping tool spring in both directions, utilizing a stack of Belleville springs. The Enhancer extends with increases in drill string pressure and contracts with a decrease in drill sting pressure.

The Enhancer is a Multi-staged tool allowing the pump open area or the extending force of the tool to be increased or decreased, within limits upon assembly. This feature allows a rig with limited pump pressure to adjust the Challenger Sidewinder using the bypass nozzles feature to a lower overall pressure drop while making up for the loss with the Enhancer extending force by adding greater pump open area to the tool.

Challenger Ball Drop

The Sidewinder Ball Drop builds on the proven functionality and reliability of the Sidewinder and takes it to the next level. The Sidewinder Ball Drop can also be set to the exact needs of each specific run, based on flow rate and mud weight.

The Sidewinder Ball Drop is activated by the operator when needed, by simply pumping a ball into the tool from surface. Once the ball is seated, the mud flow is then diverted from the bore of the tool into the power section activating the rotor and valve creating the pulse.

Once the tool is brought to surface the ball can be retrieved using the retrieval tool provided with the Sidewinder Ball Drop. The tool then can be re-run if desired and activated when required..

Every Sidewinder Ball Drop is tested before it goes out to the field. Service facilities in Canada and the US test every Sidewinder Ball Drop with the 850 GPM test pump. It should also be noted that the Sidewinder Ball Drop functions at a frequency more conducive to working with MWD equipment.

When ordering the Sidewinder or Sidewinder Ball Drop, please provide mud weight and flow rate to best configure the tool to suit your application.
